Local resident asks for help to aid Haiti victims
“Hearty Help for Haiti”
Hello Township Residents,
My name is Sandy Marroccoli. My
daughter Alyssa, who is a 6th Grader at Frelinghuysen Elementary,
has a strong desire to help raise money for the victims of the recent
horrendous disaster in Haiti. Together we have decided to run a soup sale
called “Hearty Help for Haiti”. All proceeds will be donated to the Red
Cross.
As some of you know we have done this in
the past with great success. We were able to raise almost $15,000 to help
those in need from previous natural disasters including a “soup sale” for
victims of the Tsunami and a “Golf for the Gulf” for victims of Hurricane
Katrina.
For those who do not know me, I wanted
to mention that I was previously employed for over 20 years as a chef and
manager within the food and beverage industry. I was trained and certified
in HACCP and OSHA, and can assure you that all food products will be
properly handled and packaged.
Basically Alyssa and I are asking for
your help and would like you to participate in whatever capacity you deem
appropriate (i.e. volunteering or simply spreading the word). Most
importantly we would like you to buy “Hearty Help for Haiti” soup.
I personally believe that children
should know that every little bit of assistance for people-in-need is
important. If your child would like to help in this endeavor, any support
they can provide in making labels for the soup containers and subsequent
soup distribution would be greatly appreciated.
The Frelinghuysen PTO has graciously
offered to handle all monetary donations and soup purchase transactions to
insure accountability of these funds destined for the Red Cross.
We look forward to working with you so
please get in touch with us if you are interested in helping.
Thank you in advance for everything.

A Message from the Green Township Fire Department
The Green Township
Volunteer Fire Department has provided fire protection for the residents of
Green Township and the eastern half of Frelinghuysen Township since 1947.
Unfortunately, many misconceptions remain about volunteer fire-fighting and
how our department is funded. We hope the following facts will help dispel
any confusion:
·
The Green Township Fire
Department is staffed solely by volunteers. In fact, 70% of all fire
departments in the US are volunteer fire departments. All departments in
Sussex and Warren Counties are staffed solely by volunteers.
·
The fire fighters of the Green
Township Fire Department receive the same level of training as every other
fire fighter in New Jersey, even those in paid “big city” departments. In
fact, the specific curriculum of Fire Fighter Level I training is mandated
by the State of New Jersey.
·
As a private, non-municipal
department, the Green Township Volunteer Fire Department’s operating
expenses include but are not limited to the following:
o
Fire apparatus maintenance and
repair
o
Firefighting equipment and
maintenance
o
Firefighter training and
protective gear
o
Firehouse utilities,
maintenance and repair
o
Administrative expenses
·
The entire operating budget of
the Green Township Volunteer Fire Department is less than the cost of the
salary and benefits package of one paid firefighter.
·
Only half of the operating
budget of the Green Township Fire Department is covered by direct funding
from Green and Frelinghuysen.
·
The remaining funding comes
from our annual fund drive and direct contributions. Unfortunately, less
than 30% of the citizens of Green and Frelinghuysen contribute to the Green
Township Fire Department.
·
In many cases, the State of
New Jersey is mandating how and when firefighting equipment is replaced.
·
The current donation level
does not cover our operating expenses and hinders our ability to replace
outdated equipment.
The members of the Green Township Volunteer
Fire Department will be there for you when you need us. I urge all of you
who have not contributed to the Green Township Fire Department to donate
whatever you can.
Sincerely,
Nick Pachnos
Chief, Green Township Volunteer Fire
Department

1. Township of Frelinghuysen 2008 Planning Survey
The Frelinghuysen Township

respondents about current conditions, and future planning prospects.
Questions on the survey related to residential and commercial planning; Open
Space and Farmland Preservation; and recreation (active and passive).
This information will aid the
Township Boards and Committees in setting and accomplishing goals set forth in
the Township Master Plan and it's elements. You may view the compiled
